Of the ways to see, observation ranks high for me. The dictionary definition, “an act of recognizing or noting a fact or occurrence often involving measurement with instruments,” is apt for photography and the mechanism of a camera. The question as a photographer is not just how to be in the right place at the right time, but whether I am still or aware or attuned enough to recognize what is in front of me.
