seascape

Outer Cape, 2023

I look at this photo and see one of my grandmother’s paintings of this same ocean. Familiar water and dunes, and yet every day a distinct place and feeling. The shifts that make each frame entirely its own. Weather and light. Where the horizon falls. What’s in the foreground—or not, leaving open expanse of water or sky. It’s easy to understand the meditations the sea inspires.
