The Hudson and New York City, 2024

The Met’s Becher exhibit a couple of years ago still has me thinking about the dependencies among technical aspects of photography and realized vision.  

Images that may seem simple are often anything but to make. Physics and chemistry bound what is rendered and what isn’t. This is as true with digital as with analogue photography. Choice of camera, lens, settings, film, paper and chemicals translate those bounds, reaching to the edges, closing them in or opening latent elements to create something distinct. There is a challenge in trying to reflect what our eye sees and a beauty in rendering something unique beside that.
